The Beauty that is Edinburgh

Situated on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth in Scotland, Edinburgh is a feast for the senses. From the medieval narrow streets of the old town and castle, the numerous architectural pleasures you will find at every corner in the centre of the city, to the hills, lochs, glens, ridges, and basalt cliffs of Holyrood Park and beyond.

I returned to Edinburgh and was overwhelmed by its beauty and grandeur.

The photos below attempt to touch upon the great diversity of this northern city and were taken on a straight line of about a mile from east to west.

At the heart of Edinburgh, in a steep, narrow valley between the medieval old town and the 18th century New Town lies Princess Street Gardens. It is unusual for me to produce purely tonal images as I tend to be drawn to strong saturated colours. On this occassion, black and white seemed to better convey the visually complex and dynamic landscapes...

Arthur's Seat

Scotland can change from dark moody skies one moment, to brightness the next. A mile on, clouds rush over the course, rugged landscape towards Arthur's Seat, an extinct volcano of rocky grassland...
